General Pest Control    News    Tips/Solutions

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) just released its bi-annual "Bug Barometer", and is warning people of the pest activity they should expect throughout the United States. We are taking this opportunity to highlight what our clients in Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia should prepare for this spring and summer!

Northeast Pest Predictions:

After the warm, dry winter that Maryland and D.C. residents experienced, tick populations are expected to increase. Spring has just started, and we're already experiencing heavy rain showers. This could increase the amount of standing water, which is an ideal area for mosquitoes to thrive and reproduce. Along with these two well-known pests, a cool spring could drive earwigs and other occasional invaders indoors to find warmth.

Southeast Pest Predictions:

Virginia is included in the Southeast region, which experienced a warm and moist winter. Due to heavy rainfall, mosquitoes are expected to emerge earlier than previous years. Rain can also attract subterranean termites, which are drawn to moist conditions. It is very important for homeowners to keep an eye out for warning signs of infestations. Virginia residents should also be on the lookout for ticks, as their populations are expected to increase, and Lyme disease has been detected in the area.

The best way to keep pests out is to take part in preventative treatments that American Pest provides. Since spring and summer are expected to be extra "buggy", it is important to protect yourself and your loved ones with bug spray containing DEET.
