Simple Tricks to Keep Rodents Out

09/12/2012

As the first cool weather of the fall season rolls slowly over the DC, Maryland and Virginia area now is the perfect time to prepare your house for small, furry invaders.

Mice seek food and shelter as the weather cools to prepare for the harsh cold of winter. It just so happens that kitchens and pantries are some of their favorite places to spend their winter days.

How do you prevent mice from getting in?
Tiny cracks or holes in outer walls or in the foundation are all it takes for a mouse to find its way into the warmth and comfort of your home. One of the first steps in Integrated Pest Management is to seal exterior entry points to keep pests out before they have a chance to become a nuisance in your home. Our experienced service staff is trained to find the common entry opportunities and seal them as the first line of defense to keep pests out.
Taking care to clean crumbs and place food in tamper-proof containers can also helpful in deterring the little rodents from setting up house in your cupboards.
Being sure to not let trash pile up inside or outside, especially if it contains food, or mice will move right in.

How do you know if you have a mouse in the house?
Mice are not the best at hiding their presence. While you may or may not see a mouse scurrying around, these critters are not shy when it comes to pooping in public places. Tiny bits of mouse excrement on counter tops, under the sink or on shelves in the pantry are a surefire sign that there is a mouse in the house.

American Pest creates a coordinated plan with each client to make the plan of action against pests as successful as possible in order to turn a mouse problem into a manageable and effective control effort.
