The holidays are near and many families in the D.C., VA, and MD area are planning to get real Christmas trees due to their natural beauty, pine scent, and being a wonderful activity to get the family in the spirit of the holidays. This Christmas tradition, however, does not come without its share of risks. Real Christmas trees are known to be full of bugs and without proper precaution, you may unwittingly invite these pests indoors for the holidays.
In an effort to keep your home pest free this Christmas, it is important to be aware of these possibilities and that you follow these proven tips from the pest control experts at American Pest:
- Vigorously shake the tree outdoors to dislodge any insects, eggs, and loose needles.
- Remove any bird nests or egg masses, which are commonly found on undersides of branches and the trunk.
- Do Not use insect sprays as they are flammable and other alternative solutions are available.
- Vacuum any insects found on or around the tree.
- Keep an eye out for any insect activity in the tree and your home.
