American Pest to Donate to Local Breast Cancer Screening Organization this October

News

It is estimated that nearly 500 Washington D.C. women will receive a breast cancer diagnoses this year. That number jumps substantially to almost 5,000 in Maryland and a whopping near 7,000 in Virginia1.

Throughout the United States, the month of October is dedicated to bringing awareness to breast cancer screening and support to those affected by the disease. Once again, American Pest is thrilled to announce our continued partnership with Breast Care for Washington (BCW), a local nonprofit that provides breast cancer screenings and care to women in D.C.—where the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the country exists.

“It is critical that women are able to obtain an annual mammogram (beginning at age 40) regardless of their location or ability to pay,” says Liz Davey, Vice President of Development and Communications at BCW. “We seek to help overcome barriers that prevent low income, medically underserved women from receiving quality breast care.”

Since opening its doors in May of 2014, BCW has screened over 2000 patients and has made 20 breast cancer diagnoses. However, there are still too many women in our nation’s capital without access to proper breast cancer screenings and care. That’s why, for each residential service that American Pest provides to its clients during the month of October, the company has pledged to donate $1 to BCW—in an effort to bring breast health and awareness to women across the DMV area.

"It has always been important to us that we partner at the local level," says Miranda Sherman, Marketing Manager at American Pest. "The women of the DMV are our own mothers, wives, sisters, friends, and clients--and this is how we'll support them."

Along with observed “Pink Friday” attire for the corporate office in Fulton, MD and pink personal protective equipment (PPE) and shoe covers for the technicians in the field, American Pest will also schedule various office activities to raise awareness for breast cancer screening throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Care for Washington provides care to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. Because over 30% of the patients they see are uninsured, the organization depends on charitable giving to cover the cost of patient care. If you would like to help, please visit give.breastcaredc.org.
