Board Certified Entomologists Jay Nixon and W. Wayne White of American Pest are traveling to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on the east coast of Africa. American Pest has partnered with the U.S. State Department for over ten years to spread its knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices worldwide.

American Pest entomologists have traveled to over 50 countries to work on pest control projects for each specific region. The State Department selects representatives from all over the globe to attend American Pest’s seminars. Because of this, “[American Pest] has touched most of the world,” Nixon says.

American Pest’s seminar is designed to teach the representatives in Dar es Salaam specific treatments to control the Indian house crow activity as well as innovative management techniques for other common regional pests. “It’s rewarding to have such eager students,” Nixon says. Termites, ants, and mosquitoes are among the other pests that cause everyday problems for residents of Tanzania.

An invasive bird from Southern Asia, the Indian house crow has become an unwelcome presence in Tanzania. Native frogs, insects, other birds and small mammals are at a constant threat of being overpowered by this aggressive and predatory species. This damaging effect on the local environment has driven the U.S. embassy to seek the longstanding pest control expertise of American Pest.

Integrated Pest Management is the official term for the method by which American Pest (and other reputable companies) manage pest activity. By combining methods to prevent pests from invading homes and other structures along with targeted treatments, IPM is the most effective approach to pest control. Rather than simply treating the problem on the inside of a building, American Pest stops the problem from its exterior source. This proactive approach both solves the current pest problem and prevents new issues from occurring. American Pest uses IPM both abroad and for its clients in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area to ensure elite service no matter where in the world service is needed.
