TAKOMA PARK, MD — Nov. 11, 2009 — In response to the terrible shooting tragedy at Fort Hood military base, American Pest Management has teamed with Washington DC based nonprofit organization Luke’s Wings to ensure that loved ones of those wounded are reunited with their families.  Thirteen soldiers were killed and 31 others were injured during the Nov. 5th shooting spree.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s families during this difficult time,” says Matt Nixon, CEO of American Pest Management. “Many of our employees have family members or friends serving in the military and we feel strongly that we needed to come together to offer our support.”

Luke’s Wings is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of service members who have been wounded in battle.  Founded in 2007, Luke’s Wings has supported more than 40 families by providing airfare and travel arrangements for nearly 100 flights to reunite the families of loved ones undergoing treatment at military hospitals all over the country including Washington D.C.’s Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda.

Co-Founders Fletcher Gill and Sarah Wingfield, along with a team of dedicated volunteers, will help to expand Luke’s Wings operations nationally in 2010.

“We are grateful for American Pest Management’s support,” Wingfield says. “The soldiers wounded at Fort Hood will need our assistance to ensure that their families and loved ones can be at their side.  Without continued support, we would not be able to assemble and act quickly when tragedy strikes.”

Outside of operational and administrative costs, 100% of all donations and profits received from Luke’s Wings fund-raising events go directly to flying the families of injured service officers to military medical centers.

“We will continue to support Luke’s Wings,” says Matt Nixon, CEO of American Pest Management.  “We feel it’s important that we give back to the families of those who risk their lives to protect our nation.”

Luke's Wings currently seeks emergency donations to assist in flying the families of those injured at Fort Hood.  Mail donations to: Luke’s Wings, Inc., 20 Ritchfield Ct., Rockville, MD 20850. Or visit them online: www.lukeswings.org
