American Pest Attends the Congressional Bed Bug Forum

11/30/2010

News

Washington, D.C. – November 18th, 2010 - American Pest is pleased to announce that we were invited to send three of our brightest to DC’s Congressional Bed Bug Forum at the United States Capitol Visitor Center from 2pm-5pm.

Jay Nixon, our company President; along with Dr. Kathy Heinsohn and Wayne White, our board certified entomologists, were invited to share their knowledge about the bed bug pandemic. The forum was developed for government officials, university professors, and professionals in the pest control, housing, and hotel/lodging industries to have the opportunity to give Congress feedback about the federal government’s current anti-bed bug efforts, including the pending “Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite Act of 2009.” Invitees were also asked to brainstorm solutions for garnering federal funds for combating the problem, bringing the best treatment products and services available to market, and educating the public about prevention and treatment options.

Hosted by U.S. Congress Representatives G. K. Butterfield (D - North Carolina) and Don Young (R - Alaska), the forum was conducted in four panel sessions, each concluding with a Q and A session. Speakers from the National Pest Management Association, Environmental Protection Agency, and Virginia Tech University spoke about the scientific background of bed bugs, the impact on residents and key industries, and solutions for the problem. A personal account of experience with bed bugs in a residential property was also heard.

American Pest is proud to have been invited to and contributed to the DC Congressional Bed Bug Forum, and is very interested in helping Congress develop practical solutions for eliminating bed bugs. Keep an eye on us as we attend the 2nd DC bed bug summit, “Bed Bugs Are Changing Our World,” being hosted by the Department of Health on January 20th, 2011.

Since its founding in 1925, American Pest has been solving pest problems in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, and today continues its longstanding tradition of providing effective residential and commercial pest control solutions for Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
