Bed bugs

June 4-10 is 2017 Bed Bug Awareness Week. In honor of this, we are taking a look at where these pesky critters love to hang out. Do you know all of the places where bed bugs love to live and breed?

What Are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are one of the most annoying pests, and also one of the most difficult to eradicate. Because of their small size (adults are just ¼ inch in length), they tend to gather in very small spaces. They are reddish-brown in color, and a flat, oval shape. For comparison, they are about the size and shape of an apple seed. So, where exactly are bed bugs hiding?

  4. In the corners of the ceiling.

  5. Inside drawers, especially in the corners.

What Should I Do With This Information?

This list will be especially helpful if you are staying in a hotel room or Airbnb, and have concerns about bed bugs. Since these insects are known hitchhikers, just one needs to latch onto your luggage for an infestation to occur in your own home. An infestation will grow fast too, as females can lay up to 7 eggs per day, totaling almost 250 eggs in her life time. As the baby females mature and begin to lay their own eggs, they will do the same. It is estimated that just one pregnant female is capable of creating an infestation of more than 5,000 bed bugs within just six months.
